The unit is sealed so it should be pretty clean. If there's a lot of crap in there, I would gently clean the contacts and potentiometer sweep area.

BE CAREFUL. You don't want to hose anything up.

Index the clockspring with a sharpie so you know what the stock setting was. This way you can go back to stock easily.
